Program Details

The Magic of Reading program provides a positive environment for children to gain confidence learning how to read using books, fun games, and technology such as iPads. Not only will students work on their literacy skills, but they will also be able to practice their social skills as they read, learn, and grow along with their mentors and peers.

ReadingThis program is a perfect fit if your child seems to be struggling with a certain skill or needs more time, support, and encouragement to learn to read or write. The classes are run in small groups but are also individualized to emphasize each child’s strengths.

Reading strategies will be emphasized according to a student’s abilities as follows:

  • word analysis, decoding and encoding
  • basic comprehension – locating information in text
  • fluency in oral reading
  • drawing conclusions
  • making connections to the text
  • producing oral and written responses to questions
  • summarizing text orally and in writing

Our instructors, Kimen Dolch and Jacqueline Keiser, are both certified teachers and reading specialists with over ten years of experience. This program meets twice a week and is ongoing enabling us to give consistent intervention as needed by each child at an affordable price of $175 for 12 classes ($14.60 per class). Our mission for this intensive program is to inspire students of all abilities to develop a strong foundation of key literacy skills and to begin exploring the countless possibilities reading has to offer!
