Many students have difficulties expressing how they feel and articulating their needs. Dancing with the Stars offers children the opportunity to truly use their body to express their thoughts and emotions through movement. The program will explore different styles of dance such as hip-hop, jazz, and tap dancing. The dances are choreographed specifically to the talents of the children in the class and are often from musicals and plays. Students will learn the techniques, names, and steps of different dance combinations.
This experience will give children an opportunity to exercise, practice coordination, and follow directions in a structured environment. By the end of the program, students will have learned and memorized an entire dance to be performed at Pathways’ annual spring concert. Setting this performance goal motivates students to really listen to their peers and instructors and try their hardest at every practice.
Parents are also encouraged to practice the dance at home with their children to reinforce lessons learned in class. Often times, parents notice a huge difference in their child’s self-esteem. Students become inspired, encouraged, and empowered to put on their best performance and shine on stage.
